Our Five Favorite Fall Clothing Essentials
Fall in one of the best times of the year to ride, the leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp, and there is still daylight in the mornings and evenings. With the change in temperatures comes a change in the riding gear you need to keep your rides comfortable.
The key to fall riding in the Northwest can be summed up in one word, layers! Most of your summer clothing can still be used in the fall with the addition of these key pieces;
Base layers come in various weights but work by wicking moisture away from your skin, keeping your core warm even while the temps are dropping outside.
Once the temperatures start to drop its crucial to switch from summer weight socks to thicker options. We recommend wool as the material of choice for its excellent wicking abilities.
The cold fall air will feel even more cold once the wind-chill from riding comes into effect. It’s important to keep your arms and legs covered by arm and leg warmers to keep the wind at bay.
Nothing ruins a ride faster that numb fingers and toes. Fight the cold air with windproof booties and gloves.
Finally a good jacket will keep you nice and warm on cold rides and as the rain starts to come down a good rain jacket is cruscial. There are many options for rain shells, some are suited for competitive cyclists and others are great for commuters. Come by and try one on at any of our three locations.
With a little bit of planning and strategic layering riding through the fall is a breeze.
