We designed this jersey with the idea that you'll wear it half the time on its own and half the time under a vest in cooler conditions. So we made it look great no matter which way you use it. Innovative evolution The Free Aero RC Bibshort is our top race short, which also means that it's insanely comfortable even if you never pin on a number. It's fair to say that we've been working on this short for the past 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original free aero race bibshort was first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race short. Since then it has won three Tours de France, three Gri d'Italia, one Vuelta, and San Remo, but it also became the best-selling product in the history of Castelli because, simply put, this is the short that does everything well. The concept is quite simple: start with the best pad we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that's not absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams. In fact, the short portion has just 5 panels compared to 10 in the previous generation. NOT YOUR NORMAL REMOVABLE-SLEEVE JACKET We went back to the design table to come up with a better way to make a removable-sleeve jacket and in the process created a brilliantly versatile jacket. The first goal of this base layer is to move moisture away from your skin while adding minimal insulation for those cool days when your riding intensity is high enough and your outer layers are warm enough. The areas covered by the bibtight around the waist and up the back can get hot, so we used a lightweight PrimaLoft fabric to help even out the temperature. This baselayer works best when in contact with the skin, so both fabrics are very stretchy and the cut is slim. On extremely cold days we'll use this as a first layer under a Flanders Warm second base layer, or under a thermal jersey. This is a modern interpretation of the wind shell jacket, the one you keep in your pocket for a long descent or put on for the first hour of the ride until the day warms up. That jacket used to be a simple affair — a nylon shell — but the lack of stretch meant that it had to be cut on the generous side to fit all body shapes, both on and off the bike. We've completely reimagined what the shell jacket should be and how it's constructed. We've added panels on the sides and the sleeves in a very high-stretch yet tightly knit fabric that allows us to give the jacket a modern, close-to-body fit for aero gains on any terrain, and it actually keeps more heat in than a jacket that's flapping about. We've kept it very compact so that it can pack away into minimal space in a jersey pocket.
