Details

With Specialized's light, agile M4 butted-aluminum frame, a plush SR SunTour fork and powerful Avid disc brakes, the Rockhopper is ready for anything. Adding to the fun is its 24-speed SRAM drivetrain that lets you spin up tough climbs and fly down descents. And, thanks to the Alex rims wrapped with Specialized knobbies, you'll stick to the trail and keep the rubber side down.

great bike for the money

By

from BIG HOUSE, MI

About Me Avid Cyclist

Pros

  • Smooth shifting
  • Great Components
  • Handles Well
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Bouncy Shocks

Best Uses

  • Single Track
  • Casual Trails
  • Free Riding
  • Cross Country

Comments:

what's great about the bike is the lightweight frame and the components shift relatively smoothly into gears. Great bike for the price. Looked around at other bikes and couldn't find anything better for this price. The only complaint I have is the front shocks are a little bouncy when standing up to crank. With that being said, this could be my own issue, as I haven't quite mastered locking out the shock or adjusting the spring tension.

Got this bike for my son's 8th grade graduation - He'll use it to ride to soccer practice and recreational/trail riding. The day he got it we went for a 10 mile ride. He likes the fit and finish, comfortable ride, lock out shock. This is a bike he can grow with and upgrade as needed[...]

      Comments:

I bought my first bike in 1987 a "Specialized Rockhopper", after getting hooked on mountain biking in Big Bear. My '87 Rockhopper was/is the best bike ever!! But, couldn't resist disc brakes and shocks any longer. Looked at and tested my different brands of bikes and the second I rode the 2011 Rockhopper, I knew I had to have it. It may not be the most expensive bike out there, but this bike handles. The brakes are soooo good, they almost scare me. I can't imagine anyone being unhappy with this bike as long as it continues to switch gears and the chain doesn't fall off....this bike "rocks"!!!

      Comments:

After some years I decided to get back into biking. This bike was exactly what I needed. I took it to a trail yesterday and I had a blast. It is very light and solidly built. It reminded me of a Gary Fisher bike I used to own years ago. I feel very sore today due to the uncomfortable seat. I have placed an order to replace it with a WTB LASER V SLT SADDLE. Other than the seat I am very happy with the purchase.

        Comments:

I am replacing my old steel frame Rockhopper. I wanted something lighter and with more gears. I did not have shocks, my new 2010 Rockhopper has stock, front shocks. I picked it up just last week and took a short 11 mile ride that day. Wow what a sweet ride it was. I had gears left over on the hills I normally need my lowest gear to get over. I am in love and a happy camper...

        Comments:

I had read the two previous reviews on this bike before even going shopping. I was highly impressed with the solid construction of the bike when I got to the store. I've only gone on a couple short rides with it but I couldn't be happier with it. With minimal effort I was away and cruising. Smooth shifting between gears, Highly sensitive brakes, but all around great purchase for the price. I will be replacing the seat that comes with it as I get riding more, but other than that no complaints so far.
